The Nelson Regional Pool Association runs a Competition Round Robin of games from end of February through to October (depending on how many teams are registered to play). These games are played on Monday nights starting around 7.30pm and finishing approximately 10pm. Most teams, consisting of eight players, have a pub or a club as their home base.

Each team of eight plays four games (frames) of doubles, followed by eight games of singles (ie; twelve games). The draw for who plays who is set out where possible to give teams alternate home and away games. There is a fee of $4 per player per game. This money is used to keep the Association operating and a percentage is used at a finals night at the end of the season (usually held October/November).

Prizes are paid out as follows:

  • Each Monday night game won: 50 cents to team
  • Two top points winning teams play off for Association Cup.

Also played for on Monday nights (as part of the Round Robin) are two sponsored trophies (Revell Trophies) The Teams that hold the Revell Trophies the most weeks through the season will playoff for the Atawhai Earthworks Trophy. If the Teams with the most points have also held the Revell Trophies the longest then the Atawhai Earthworks Trophy will be played for by the next two Teams that have held the Revell Trophies the most weeks.

The two next teams with the highest points then play off for the Liz Fitzjohn Trophy
